| Training Tips - Start With the Puppy Basics |
 |
I have had many new puppy owners ask me when they bring home their new puppy, where do they begin to start training? So I have mapped out some basic training that you can begin as soon as you bring your new little one home.
Below is a great scheduling tool and some tips that will come in handy when a new puppy enters your home.
 |
Approximate Schedule |
Wake up at 7:00am or earlier if needed
Take the puppy for a little stroll or laps around the outside of the house
Breakfast in a toy while you eat
Potty break
Snooze in the puppy pen
12:00 take out for a potty break & play
Snooze in the afternoon
4:00pm play period
They crash for an hour
6:00-7:30pm play time
They crash for an hour
Last potty check
10:00pm bedtime
Begin some basic training to get you started on the right track with your new puppy:
- start working to know their name
-
teach them the word “yes”
- get them accustomed to their puppy pen with you close by, then begin small trips with the crate training in the car.
- work on the puppy biting, chewing and the beginning stages of sit & down;
-
and of course their house training and socialization.
- start them on doing 2 or 3 stairs that are not very slippery.
Also, place the kennel in a closed in area preferably the plastic kennel homes as I find the metal frames are built too weak.
